The Ninety-Day Grain

The bar in Kirkwall had five tables and a fire. Polly sat near the heat. "Can I see the menu?" she asked. There were only a few things on the card.

Gostilna v Kirkwallu je imela pet miz in ogenj. Polly je sedla blizu toplote."Lahko vidim jedilni list?"je vprašala. Na kartici je bilo le nekaj jedi.

"Could you recommend a good dish?" The owner was a heron. She said the bannock. Bere is a barley grown here for hundreds of years. It grows fast, in a short summer.

"Mi lahko priporočite kakšno dobro jed?"Lastnica je bila čaplja. Rekla je bannock. Bere je ječmen, ki ga tu gojijo že stoletja. Raste hitro, v kratkem poletju.

"Do you have vegetarian options?" Polly asked. The heron pointed at the same line. Bannock, butter and soft cheese.

"Imate vegetarijanske jedi?"je vprašala Polly. Čaplja je pokazala na isto vrstico. Bannock, maslo in mehak sir.

"Can we get the bill, please?" Polly said. The heron took her time, which is a good sign. Outside, the wind was almost calm. Polly walked up to the red cathedral.

"Lahko dobimo račun, prosim?"je rekla Polly. Čaplja si je vzela čas, kar je dobro znamenje. Zunaj je bilo skoraj brezvetrje. Polly je šla navzgor do rdeče stolnice.
