Water That Went Hard

In Barahona there are small workshops. A saw cuts the rough stone open. Inside it is blue, with white lines in it. It looks like the sea from an airplane.

The stone is called pectolite. Grey pectolite is in many countries. But blue pectolite is only here. People looked everywhere else for it. They never found it.

The stone is very old. Hot water went into holes in the rock and filled them. So this stone is water that became hard.

The workshop makes each piece round and shiny. Dark blue is the best of all. Polly looks at a tray of blue stones. They are all different.
