The Stone Came Down the River

The blue stone did not come from the sea. It came down the river.

Rivers carry stones down from the mountains. So two men walked up the river to look for the place. This was in nineteen seventy four. High in the mountains they found dark rock. Inside the dark rock there was blue.

One man was called Miguel Méndez. His daughter was called Larissa. The Spanish word for sea is mar. So he gave the stone the name larimar.

Other people saw the blue stone before him. But nobody knew what it was. Polly looks up at the green mountain above her.
