Polly landet auf einem roten Leuchtturm in Portugal. Er ist klein und rund, oben auf einer alten Steinburg auf einer hohen Klippe.

Die Klippe hat Meer auf zwei Seiten. Eine Seite hat eine Stadt und einen ruhigen Strand mit bunten Booten. Die andere Seite hat einen langen, leeren Strand ohne Häuser. Das Wasser dort ist sehr flach.

Ein alter Albatros kommt mit einem Fernrohr. Er schaut lange auf das Meer. Dann sagt er: Dieses ruhige Meer kann dich täuschen. Die Riesen kommen.

Weit weg schiebt ein Sturm das Wasser. Welle nach Welle. Polly beschließt, sieben Tage zu bleiben und zu schauen.
